In a flashback to Guerrero's younger days (1973), Chilean folk singers protest General Pinochet's brutal crackdowns.

“Send him away! Damn Yankee!”

“What's going on? Let me pass!”

“He's an American. He wants to spy on us.”

“Leave him alone. I know him. Not all Americans are enemies of Unidad Popular.* Alan Rogers is on our side.”

* The Popular Unity protest movement.

“If you say so, comrade journalist.”

“Thanks, Ernesto. I was having a bad time. If it weren't for you...”

“Now don't exaggerate, Alan. You would have gotten away after a little shoving. There are only good people here.”

“Meet Julia Lopez. She's American like you.”

“Nice to meet you!”

“Alan Rogers. Lopez... would you be by any chance...?”

“The wife of Juan Lopez, the singer. And this is our son, Edgardo. He usually appreciates music, but now...”

“Waaaah...”

“As you know, that was 'El Aparecido,' ("The Apparition") a song by Victor Jara. And now a piece of mine, which I composed to the words of my favorite poet, Miguel Hernandez. Before dying in Franco's prisons, after the war in Spain, Hernandez wrote these verses for his newborn child. And I dedicate this song to my wife and my son.”

Alan Rogers is the father of future assassin Erwin Rogers.
