Description
A niche, but very special add for me. One where I did a double take when I came across it for sale during CAF Live.

I've enjoyed reading the Mouse Guard series over the years. The stories are multi-layered and nuanced, especially as the volumes progress. The art is drop dead gorgeous with Peterson showing he is a master of his craft. Finally, the world building for these tiny medieval mice and the predators/hazards they face is truly special.

The very first issue of Mouse Guard was self published by Peterson with a 200-250 copy initial print run, sold at the 2005 Motor City Con. It was then pick up by Achaia Studios a few months later at SDCC for commercial printing. The rest is history, with this year celebrating Mouse Guard's 20th anniversary.

This piece is the cover for that first self-published and first published issue. The most significant image, IMO, for a wonderful comic world!

Here is David deep diving into that first issue - https://youtu.be/Mq7h5MvrwAk?si=9zUYc0JglHOA9EpL

Thanks Monty!

Beautiful wraparound, and even more special knowing it was the very first published cover.  Love Petersen's work.

What a birth page cover!  High rollers ae knocking down your door in the CAF mailbox!  From humble beginnings to wide acclaim, Petersen is one of the biggiest indie stories of the past 20 years having come from children's book illustrations to comics.

Lovely use of coloured inks to create a highly textured background. The composition in that frame is also interesting, with the browns and greens making the character stand out. Nice cover.
