Are you saying this is a 1948 drawing by Seuss9 years before the book was published?

The drawing is on a 1948 first day cover stamped envelope. The stamp and envelope is from 1948. The drawing later in life. Like when they saw the artist at random, thats what they had for him to sign and draw on.
