Description

Full page splash featuring one of my all time favorite villains; Darkseid, Lord of Apokolips by The King himself.

This page was one of the splashes that Kirby added to his original “On The Road To Armaghetto” conclusion for the New Gods when the powers that be decided to expand the project into what eventually became the Hunger Dogs graphic novel.

The page is drawn by Kirby on twice-up sized artboard and inked over by D Bruce Berry. All the pages were originally inked by Mike Royer or D Bruce Berry and in the final book, Greg Theakston decided to lightbox the drawings on vellum and re-ink them in his best approximation of Joe Sinnott.

But this is the page in its unaltered form with D Bruce Berry’s inks directly over Kirby’s pencils.

Darkseid gives good face like a fashion magazine cover model! He seems much more human with the big facial features. It's Kirby's finale to his Fourth World and he made these pages with care as his farewell.
