Description

I love Mark’s work and was lucky enough to pick up this dinosaur prelim from him at HeroesCon this year. He told me the story behind the piece that he had been commissioned by a comic shop in the Netherlands of all places called the Strip Specialist who wanted to do the whole alphabet and have each letter illustrated by a different artist. Mark was given the letter S and decided to do a retro longneck dinosaur with its neck and tail arching in the shape of the letter. Even after all these years of collecting art I’m still amazed by how much detail Mark puts into his prelims. A lot of them could genuinely pass for finished work.

Schultz is the right guy to pull it off with a creature right out of the primordial world! His pencils have so much nuance to them that you feel the life force within these monsters.

....now that is something! The letters in the name will form a portfolio which consists of all screenprints

Awesome! I saw this in Mark's portfolio when he did a NYC comic art show a couple of months ago. I debated picking it up but couldn't swing it at the time. Glad you were able to get it. It's a great piece! (and he told me the story of the 'S' as well!)
