Description

An absolutely gorgeous graphite piece by Spanish illustration master, Esteban Maroto. This large pencil piece was featured in his 2002 art book, Wonders published by Norma Editorial/Eurotica and also part of a card set (#59) called Crimson Embrace by Comic Images in the 90s. Also a fantastic piece of art history, as this piece was owned by the estate of Frank Thorne, as this piece appears to have been given a gift to famed illustrator known for defining the original bronze age character of Red Sonja. Inscribed as "Para El Mago Frank Thorne" which translates to "For the Magician Frank Thorne" which likely refers to Frank Thorne's wizard outfit worn for Red Sonja and fantasy cons during the peak of his popularity in the 70s and 80s. Artist signature below the dedication and dated 1996. The art measures a large 12"x18" on art board and in excellent condition for its age.

Made to impress! Maroto made sure to do this with care as the pose is in line with what Thorne would appreciate when drawing his own She-Devil!
