Description

First of all, condolences to Sharon and the entire Osbourne family.

So I’m blasting Crazy Train right now as I type this. It just seemed like the thing to do, and honestly, it was the first thing I thought of when I heard the news. Yes, the heavy metal Prince of Darkness is gone. Hall of famer, rock god, icon, and legend. Gone, but certainly never forgotten. I’m not going to bother doing a life recap because if you’re a fan, you’ve already heard or read all the stories and various escapades. Ozzy lived the stereotypical rock star life, and he lived it at full blast. When I think of Ozzy and everything he had gone through and everything he had done to himself, there were always two conflicting thoughts that were somehow both true. One was, this guy should be dead. Knowing what we knew about his lifestyle and watching him and listening to him especially in his later years, how is it he’s not dead? Which leads to the second thing. Apparently, nothing can kill this guy. So he’s going to live forever. Well, we now know that isn’t true. But if you’re a rock or metal fan, you sure as hell know that his music is going to live forever. So whether it’s Sabbath or post-Sabbath, put on some Ozzy and raise your glass, bottle, or mug. And needless to say, crank that shit up (that's how Ozzy would want it)!

I just heard the news about an hour ago. I was sad to hear it at first but then instantly went into an audible celebration of his music and put on War Pigs by Black Sabbath and will be listening to his catalog all day. He will live on in the hearts of music and pop culture fans and have influence for many generations to come. Ozzy made a big impact on my own life. I used to go to Ozzfest back in the day and have seen Ozzy/Sabbath live about a dozen times over the years from childhood to adulthood. Hell I even have tattoos on my knucks inspired by Ozzy's. What a legend, RIP.

Even though I have their entire library on vinyl (and CD), sadly, I never got to see Ozzy front Sabbath.  The only time I saw them, Ronnie James Dio was on the mike.  But I am forever grateful that I did get to see Ozzy with Randy Rhodes before he was killed.  So awesome that you got to see them so much.  And yes, I'm really glad I was able to find a photo with the knuckle tattoos.  Thanks for the comment buddy.

DIary of a Madman came out when I was in 7th grade. The MTV video was so cool and in heavy rotation.

From biting the head off a bat to the reality show on E! - he is making music again with Randy

God I wish those two had been able to play together longer.  Such a huge impact for such a short collaboration.  Randy had a huge impact on Ozzy's life and career.  In many ways, I think he revitalized both.  Just trying to imagine how big that band would have gotten if they had been able to put out 3-4 more records.

By the way, thanks a lot for that "7th grade" crack.  At least you spared me another year by not using Blizzard of Ozz as your age reference.  I loved Diary, but have to confess that Blizzard got the heavier rotation in my record collection.
