Sam Kieth is one of the ultimate '90s artists for me. I always loved his gritty style at Marvel and DC and The Maxx is still one of my all-time favorite series. Anything Kieth is pure nostalgia for me.

This illustration looks like a trademark Kieth character, but exists somewhere between Kieth’s Pangea and a world created by Dr. Seuss. Burkey tried to tell me this was a character design for a villain from The Maxx, but I know this is just some random walrus slug with horns and a sweet mustache reminiscent of The Lorax. Something dreamt up in Sam's mind and likely done just for fun. Whatever its origin, it makes me happy and I was happy to relieve Burkey of it at SDCC in a simple little trade deal.

Update: I later learned Sam posted this illustration to his Blog website on 12/13/20 with the following description:
“I have no clue…
…what this is, or why I drew it.
*sigh * Brain cells I’ll never get back.”

Shit I would not be surprised if a Walrus slug creature like this shows up in the new Alien: Earth show (which is fantastic btw!). Nice little Sam Keith ditty! I'd love a Keith piece myself and echo all your sentiments. congrats!
