Description

The Penguin blackmails Catwoman to do a little burglary on his behalf. After an ordeal, she retrieves this reliquary but on the way out is confronted by its guardian. Casagrande's stylish art reminds me of Joelle Jones, so I was not surprised to learn that Jones wrote this story.

The conflict is implied by the visual contrast, as a character in white faces a character in black. The published color scheme is less stark but still has contrast. I love the detailed beading and filigree on the guardian's clothing, and Catwoman has interesting details such as the half-gloves evident on panel four's super-close-up.

The backgrounds were rendered digitally and then printed, whereas the figures were drawn traditionally on that same board. It's a modern version of the Continuity Studios process in which Neal Adams drew the foreground figures and left the rest to his assistants.

Meow! I really dig this page! Penguin and Selina are always up to something. I thought it may have been Joelle Jones at first as well based on the timing of the issue and just the quick glance at the thumbnail. I'm going to have to look into Casagrande (and Blanco) art some more. Nice pickup!

It's the eyes!  They are different because a woman pencils them.  This passes the Bechdel test.  Nobody said passing it couldn't be sexy!

Beautiful, had the option to buy this one not long ago, but did not pull the trigger, kinda regretting it now!
