Awesome pick up! Congrats!
Thank you!
What? This didn't sell at first?? It's the best of the bunch.
Yeah, I was very surprised, especially considering it was offered at San Diego.
I'll take a full figure over a headshot any day. Just love the way Arthur draws Godzilla. You can really see his love for the character in every Godzilla drawing he does. I still remember the first time I went to his apartment years and years ago (when he lived closer to me) and seeing Gozilla figures literally EVERYWHERE! Haha! If he doesn't have every single Gozilla toy, doll, figure, and model, ever made, I don't know who does. Anyway, great drawing. Congrats!
Thanks, Eric. I'm very happy to have been able to get a full body piece, but I dig the headshots, too, as a lot of emotion and detail can be achieved in the face if it's larger...It's not too often he does full body sketches these days, and especially of Godzilla, so this one is special, for sure.
That's so cool you got to go to his apartment; I'm sure he's got tons of Godzilla figures (I've got a couple of friends that are pretty insane Godzilla collectors and I'd hedge my bets on who has more!); I gave him a small figure (little diorama style) when I saw him at East Coast Comic Con in, I believe, 2015. I don't think he had it! :)
That's so weird because I also gifted him with a Godzilla and Mothra diorama once. I had a friend who was a model maker so I had it custom made and gave it to Arthur at a local show. I remember that day very specifically because it was at that show that Arthur told me he had decided to keep all his artwork and not sell anymore. Obviously he had a change of heart since then, but at the time, it was a very sad day for me as you might imagine. Anyway, I'm just glad he never followed through and continues to sell his artwork. I mean, my god, can you imagine? I shudder to think of a world where you couldn't buy Art Adams artwork. LOL
Hahah well the one I gave him wasn't quite so elaborate or personal. It was one of the gashapon type things, where it was a few pieces that got put together and formed a little scene. Godzilla and maybe a base with a few buildings. Godzilla was maybe 4" high, if that.
And, that wouldn't be a fun world to be in, if there was no Arthur Adams art to buy! I didn't realize he had made that decision at one point; I'm figuring he must still have a decent amount of his own art that he's held back.
When I saw him at NYCC last year and mentioned I had the art for the inside cover and back cover of Monkey Man And O'Brien #3, he asked me if I'd be willing to sell it to him. (I politely declined; if I ever did, It would have to be for a prety damn nice, large size commision - with some full bodies!)...I'm figuring that art must be one he regrets selling back in the day.
Fantastic full-figure! Wow - super grab, Justin!
