Description

Two costume design sketches for Neo (Keanu Reeves) hand-drawn by Emmy Award®-winning costume illustrator Lois DeArmond and annotated by costume designer Kym Barrett during pre-production on the Wachowskis' The Matrix. Neo traded the combat-appropriate civilian clothes he received from the crew of the Nebuchadnezzar for a gee while training to fight the Matrix with Morpheus (Laurence Fishburne) in a dojo-style program.

This lot consists of one sketch depicting Neo in a loose-fitting gee wrapped with a waist belt and one depicting him in a tighter gee with torso armor. Both are rendered, labeled "Neo," dated "97," and signed by DeArmond in graphite on drawing paper. The sketch with armor features annotations from Barrett, including "Dojo style combat clothes" and "Does he need body armour?" Both sketches are stapled to backing paper and exhibit discoloration to their corners. Dimensions: (each) 14" x 17" (35.75 cm x 43.25 cm)
