Little Lulu Daily - 04/04/1969

Here is a Ed Nofziger (signed as Marge) Little Lulu for the comic strip subset of my collection. This daily from very late in the run (which ended the following month on May 31st) features Lulu and her dog Mops. Poor Mops' dinner has been left out in the rain. Probably his cake, too. By the ghost of Richard Harris, this shall not stand!

The comic strip Little Lulu ran as a syndicated daily series from 1950 to 1969. It was based on the character Lulu Moppet, originally created by cartoonist Marjorie Henderson Buell (pen name Marge) in 1935 for The Saturday Evening Post. While Buell created the character and handled the early run, several different artists drew the daily comic strip over the years. This included Woody Kimbrell (1950–1964), Roger Armstrong (1964–1966), and Ed Nofziger (1966–1969), while Al Stoffel and Del Connell were responsible for most of the writing after Buell's departure. While the strip and comic book work was continued by others, she retained creative control and still personally handled Lulu's lucrative Kleenex advertisements. As a nod to the original creator, Ed Nofziger continued to sign the strip Marge throughout his tenure.
