Description

This was kind of an impulse buy. When I saw that Ben Stenbeck did this tribute to Jason and The Argonauts I knew I had to jump on it. This classic fantasy film was cinematic retelling from the Greek myth of Jason and his quest to find the Golden Fleece that featured extensive stop-motion animation by famed visual effects legend Ray Harryhausen.

Often considered by many fans and critics to be Ray�s masterpiece and for good reason. Not only was it the best movie he was ever involved with it also showcases him at the absolute peak of his craft. It�s one of the few movies to come out of Hollywood that actually captures the feel of a Greek myth by featuring the Gods of Olympus and mythological monsters.

Ben really did a stellar job on these three skeleton warriors who appeared in the climatic fight scene that was definitely the highlight of the film and probably Ray�s grand opus. Harryhausen had to animate all seven skeletons individually and the sequence took him over three months to complete. Over sixty years later it still one of the most impressive pieces of stop-motion animation ever created.

You can feel the movement of these guys with the stilted stop motion where each one had their own special personality.
