DescriptionPublished 1963The Coming of the Plantman! Written by Stan Lee and Jerry Seigel (as Joe Carter) The origin of the Plantman. A Human Torch story. Johnny appears only in the top two panels not as the Torch. Fired Gardner Sam Smithers discovers that his invention which was struck by lighting gives him the ability to command plants. He determines to use his new powers to take revenge on everyone who laughed at him, including the father of Johnny's current girlfriend. The Plantman, despite his seemingly lame super powers, showed up again and again in the Marvel Universe as a foe of Namor, the X-Men, Captain America, the Defenders, the Avengers and the Fantastic Four. For the thirst of art
Call out "Fan my hide"
You're the Strange in the desert
The garden of life
Let the roots go deep
Let them pay with lives
Like a tree that's been planted
With powers beside
I got Ayers of joy
Drawn in my soul
Like nothing Sam Smithers knows
I got Ayers of joy
Lee and Siegel
Let it flow, let it flow, let it flow
I got Ayers enjoy

The Ayers art is really nicely inked! Classic silver age Marvel page and origin of the Plantman, cool addition!

Yeah, lame powers and lame villain as a whole, but still fin to have his origin page and the Ayers art is so representative of the Silver Age Marvel period as a whole. Enjoy those Maui beaches, Miki!
