Wagner brings the VW Bug heat! Also, I didn't expect this sort of inspiration this morning. I could've been chatting with my local ATM all this-time instead of my therapist and gotten much clearer answers! ;-p

I know this page is from the third series, but when I thnk of Matt Wagner and Mage (or Grendel), I think of all those great classic indie books from the 80's.  Yes, 90's art has been all the rage for a while.  But for me, there's nothing like pulling out that longbox of 80's indie comics from publishers like Comico, Dark Horse, Eclipse, First, Pacific, and more.  Wagner and Mage were one of the few who managed to break through beyond that decade.  Fine page from a great book, a great character, and a great artist-writer.

You can bank on Wagner to have excellent art that keeps your interest throughout this self contained page.  Did Wagner ever work on Blue beetle or is this it?

Looks like your love for mage continued all the way through the most recent series, Rick! Congrats, a nice addition!

The hero denied... what? The chance to park neatly and evenly between the lines in panel 4?!?  Sheesh - c'mon, Kevin! :)  Another super cool page, the ATMs always carry a little bit of extra oomph and emotional weight in Mage, don't they?  Panel 5's great moment between Hugo and Kevin (to say nothing of the rich shading in the car's cabin) is lovely, and I really dig the page layout itself, basically perching the whole thing on top of the spindly Bug antenna at the bottom (with a sweet little dust cloud to boot).  A great "stage setting" page that helps to establish the myriad of comforts and securities our hero will soon have to leave behind (and then return to) in order to undertake (and then ultimately complete) his Quest.  Congrats, Rick!
