Description

Earlier this year, I commissioned Matt to do a piece in my "Hayao Miyazaki, artist's choice" series. He chose to do Ashitaka and Yakul encountering the Forest Spirit and turned out a stellar piece in record time.

Fast forward a few months, he decided to use the illustration for his Patreon riso print series. As he was experimenting with creating illustrated borders for recent prints, he produced one starring the Kodama as a separate pencil piece and floated the idea of someone commissioning him to fill it in on his Patreon.

Of course, how could one resist proposing a second Mononoke piece featuring San and the wolves to serve as a companion to the first one?

Very cool how the frame ties in with the theme within! He could probably use it again for other commissions, so it's great that you got the original to it all.
