DescriptionWhen I was first getting back into comics again in my 20's I picked up two graphic novels:the first was called "Logicomix" which was about Bertrand Russel, mathematics and the search of absolute truth. I actually really enjoyed reading Logicomix at the time. The second was this graphic novel "It's a Bird" written by Steven T. Eagle and illustrated by Teddy Kristiansen (only Danish to win an Eisner). It's a semi-autobiographical story about a guy, life, family, disease, troubles, struggles, heroes, symbolism...lots of stuff really. I lost my copy of this graphic novel but would randomly think about this book sometimes throughout life. This page shows panels of him remembering reading comics/stories and imagining himself in all these different scenarios. The final panel shows him (sitting the same way he did reading comics as a child) now writing a comic of his own. The final image was also used as a sort of title image (didn't know that until after ri purchased the page) which is a nice little bonus. Social/Sharing |

Man, I read Logicomix many moons ago too - I need to dig up a copy and revisit. And I'll add It's a Bird to the list too.

This page is what Kristiansen did so well to connect with the audience on a deeper level. The change in color tone for the last panel is one that is more self reflective and conveys the peace found in being creative in the way Teddy knows.

Wow. What a great example. TK was one of my favorites in the 1990s. And it's a great example of celebrating the form within the form.

wow this is really great, I gotta read this. I think a page like this connects with a lot of us who have read comics (and hopefully still do!) and have been influenced by them in our lives. congrats on adding the great art!
