The three Fates recount how Duke Nergal previously tried to kill juvenile Harlan.
(Aysha) “My arrival chased away the naphidim. It was Nergal who caused the incident, vampirizing that boy to test the powers of the Dampyr, Harlan Draka.”*

“It was an unprecedented situation! A Dampyr, the only being capable of bringing death to my kind… I had to try to defend myself, discover how dangerous he was.”
“Too bad the young Harlan was under our care. Under the protection of the Law. And your naphidim, Nergal, tried to goad him into killing a boy who was an accomplice of the vampire. You would have pushed Harlan into the arms of evil, you and your infernal accomplices.”
“Even in this case, it would have been a form of proactive defense…”
“…And a serious disruption of the Balance!”
(Regent Uriel) “What we are hearing is very serious, Iblis. Nergal has admitted his responsibility.”
(Prince Iblis) “Undoubtedly, yet his arguments have a certain value. I know that the naphidim spied on the Dampyr, Harlan Draka even later, when, though an adult, he had not understood his Dampyr nature. I know that the beautiful sisters still secretly protected him even though, after he came of age, their mandate had expired. He was being watched by both sides. So both Nergal and the sisters are guilty, or neither is.”
(Vivien) “A compelling, graceful line of reasoning, Prince Iblis. But there's a substantial difference. Nergal and the Naphidim followed the Dampyr to harm him or win him over to their side. My sisters and I followed him out of love!”
(Prince Iblis) “It pains me greatly to disappoint you, dearest Vivien, but that doesn't change the fact that the Dampyr was fair game by then, and that Duke Nergal had the same right that you did to spy on him, especially since he did so… on my orders!”
(Duke Nergal to Anyel Zant and the Fates) “Your ploy has failed, it seems. Shall we return to the real reason we're here? The indictment of the amesha Camael, alias Caleb Lost?”
(Chloe) “Shall we instead talk about how Nergal is using this tribunal for his own shady personal purposes?”
