The electrical grid of the planet's cities light up the planet to make it as bright as a star. Anything prior to Asimov's passing in 1992, should have had his approval and made these ship designs be more canon in the current show.
I agree, the best supervisor of how his work is interpreted and transmitted is the author himself!
