Crisis on Infinite Earths #10 - The Monitor Tapes (v2 - 1998 TPB) By Al Vey over George Perez line arts - Letter from Al Vey - -------------------------- "On the topic of The Monitor Tapes Second Version-The Line Art Version. DC Comics was collecting all the issues of the series Crisis On Infinite Earths into one large volume in a high quality prestige format. DC found that it's photostats of the original art would not produce an image of sufficient quality for the new format and decided to commission a new line art version of the monitor tapes. Perez passed on doing the project. DC then talked to several other artists before asking me to do a line art recreation (version) of Perez' original art. Version #2 The line art version is a recreation of Perez original but translated from his original art process to black and white line art. While pen and ink art is of a different art medium, I tried to stay as close as I could to Perez original version at all times. The monitor tapes ran as a comic strip at the bottom of each story page of Crisis On Infinite Earths issue #10. The line art originals are drawn on semi-transparent vellum paper in black India ink. There are six sheets of vellum with four strips per page and one page with just one strip on it for a total of twenty five strips. Each strip of art measures about 2 1/2''x8 3/8 Al Vey''

The only time it happened was in issue 10 and it lent a quiet outside looking in perspective to underscore all the battle stuff on the page.  Vey does a great job emulating the look of the original illustrations.
