DescriptionJohn Buscema was the Avengers artist of the late ’60s and early ’70s—despite famously claiming he didn’t much care for superheroes.Every panel on this wonderful page feels like it could’ve been pulled from a cinematic adventure. That was his magic: Buscema could—and did—make anything feel epic. This issue hit the stands in late 1970, a sweet spot in my early collecting days, but a tougher moment for Marvel. Kirby had just left for DC, schedules were tightening, and creative shuffles were brutal. Tom Palmer’s heavier inking here, compared to earlier issues, hints at looser Buscema pencils as John amped up his workload to fill the void Kirby left behind. “Hey John—we know you don’t love superheroes, but please add a few more superhero books to your schedule.” Social/Sharing |

Wanda needs a caffeine pick me up after that nightmare! A Beauty of a Buscema/Palmer page. Big John came through in the clutch for the Merry Marvel readership!

You can see why Wanda fell in love with Vision with his last panel's tender dialogue.

So great! Interesting point re: John's looser pencils. Whatever the reason, Palmer's inks on this run are so smooth, silky and inky black. Just gorgeous.

Shouldn't Quicksilver be relaxed on the side of the bed, with Wanda fully comforted, by the time the others have rushed into the room?

So consistently great in this era! I, too, was in my wheelhouse at this time. What hits me most on this page is Wanda's hair. Pretty impressive.

Amazing issue and wonderful page. I think this issue was this teams strongest issue of this run (and this was their strongest run). I said it and I'll stand by it!
