Description

Next up in my newfound collection of Sprouse sketch cards is this lovely Apparition! Sprouse's high-contrast approach to these black and white cards works extra well for her, because her entire uniform is black and white! I like his straightforward approach for adding highlights to portions of the middle black stripe, by simply leaving parts of it white and letting the viewer's eye read it as a highlight. The effect is furthered with the way her white cape acts as a barrier to keep her hair from blending in with her costume, and with the few hatched highlights he included in the hair itself to give it layers and volume.

The deeper inks are well warranted and give her a more meloncholy look.
