Description

I showed this to Clowes and he told me that it was meant to be the splash of the story from Eightball 11 but he didn't like the paper so he started anew with different stock. The result was slightly different w/ another character added. Fascinating eh? I LOVE fishing!

Also below you can see the novelty towel from 1975 that inspired the strip. Also seen is a mirror from 1960 advertising Eightball Soda. Clowes used the image on the cover.

This is such a good scan, every brushstroke crisp, each masterfully-applied bit of white-out there for all to see...this image encapsulates EVERYTHING I love about original comic art...the only thing that'd make it better would be a touch of non-repro blue pencil :)
