Description
It has become tradition to do New Year's Eve with some local friends. We all do Christmas with our families, so we wait until our NYE gathering to exchange gifts. This year, my friends Charley and Matt surprised me with my final piece of art for 2025: a published page with Stingray!!!

I picked up a five page sequence of pages featuring Stingray from issue one of this Jason Aaron penned Namor mini a couple months ago. I knew that this page from issue three was also available but figured I'd skip it as I was already spending plenty of money, and circle back to grab it later. It's not like anyone else is out there buying up published Stingray art, right? When the pages I arrived I did an unboxing video (Namor #1 Art Unboxing). A couple of days after posting that video, I went back to the site to see the page from issue three was still there and... it was not. I wondered for a moment who in the hell would have snagged that out from under me before lamenting my lack of urgency and blaming myself for not seizing the opportunity. It turns out that my friends watched my video and when I mentioned a page still being out there, they jumped on the opportunity to buy it and surprise me! For the second time this year, I was shocked buy how perfectly targeted a Christmas gift that I received was. Collecting art is fun, but collecting art with friends that get you is even better!

The sequence from issue one was a conversation between Stingray and Namor. This page is just 100% pure, grade-A Stingray bad-assery. The first panel is slightly canted, giving us a strong silhouette of Stingray standing on a jagged rock, the sea splashing angrily around him. The second panel is the money shot: a full body shot of Stingray standing tall and proud, looking as heroic as I've ever seen. His arms crossed confidently across his chest as the water laps at his feet. He stoically watches some warships go off to ruin Namor's day. The use of shadows here makes this panel very high contrast and adds some hard edges to Stingray, making him look even more like a bad ass. This is such a cool page!

Thanks Charley and Matt!

An awesome Stingray page (love the transition from the zoomed out silhouette in panel 1 to the zoomed in full figure in panel 2, very nice!) and very well gifted/done by your buddies with the stealth buy to make you wonder in the meantime! congrats and happy new year!

You had me at sharkboat. Each panel has something to like, especially a great shot of the big Ray himself! Wonderful page!

Complete and utter bad-assery is right...  and that's just taking the gift-giving aspect of this piece into account! :) What a -FANTASTIC- present!  But, yes - this is a spectacular and imposing image of Stingray as Sentinel of the Sealanes, and the strong sense of "the set up" to the storytelling here (with Stingray standing strong, looking out to the waves... and what do we have here...?) is really fun and sends a sweet charge of excitement through it.  A fun moment posing on the rocks, to be sure, but an equal thrill in feeling the pull of the upcoming adventure that will inevitably and undoubtedly get Stingray to abandon his perch.  Sweet work by Paul Davidson here, and even sweeter work by your mates, Newell!  Congrats!
