Description
Mr. Sandman Bring Me a Dream

Sketch by Charles Vess

Ink on illustration board

9 x 12 in.

Not for Sale

While the Sandman comic produced so many of my favorite characters, the titular Dream is my least favorite. Charles Vess, however, is one of the greatest fantasy illustrators of my lifetime. So when this convention sketch appeared on CAF Live this past November, I had to pick it up. It's kind of incredible what Charles can convey with a series of simple lines and I love that he titled this with lyrics from the Pat Ballard song made famous by the Chordettes in 1954.

It's good to know even the Sandman has dairy issues. I feel your pain big guy, I feel your pain.

So simple, yet so Vess. The lyrics are a really sweet touch too. Pretty awesome for you that this showed up at CAF Live, great pickup!

Perhaps not the cutest I've seen, but a damn good looking sketch!

Stars shinin' bright above you
Night breezes seem to whisper, "I love you"
Birds singin' in the sycamore tree
Dream a little dream of me

As I always say, who DOESN'T love a good quickie?
