Description
Coyote was a series that intrigued me. Steve Englehart, a fave of mine, was the creator/writer, and Marshall Rogers (another favorite) then Steve Leialoha (another favorite) being the artists, and having a Native American main character which was (and remains) extremely unusual for comics. The publishing delays made it impossible to keep up with the rambling narrative, but the book always made teenage me feel like I knew more about the world than I really did.

I was happy to score this splash page of Coyote summoning Bloodthrust the Healer. Also happy to add another Chas (also Charles, Chaz) Truog page to my collection. It's amazing how much his art changed from this early (but very fine) effort to the Green Lantern pages I have (also listed on CAF) from seven years later.

It was a good idea for the publisher to pair the then newly-professional Truog with a veteran inker in Frank Springer, to polish up the young guy's art. The combo resulted in some cool art.

Very nice bonus to have this page come autographed by author Steve Englehart.
Finally, below is a link to creator Steve Englehart's web site, where he tells talks about Coyote a bit, including how the comic book was banned in parts of America.

Interesting point about using a more experienced inker. Springer has done a great job on this trippy splash!

I love the trippy Indigenous imagery. I looks like the guys were really having fun doing this page (and series).

Great splash...so weighty.  You can feel the importance of the moment.  Congrats!

Thanks.

The inking here really does feel thick, in a very good way.
