Dramatic use of white space, and a pleasing range of inking techniques from nicely feathered brushwork through to bolder markers.

Glad it wasn't just me seeing things and making it up in my head. When I first saw the pages in my hands, like you, I noticed all the tools/styles Springer used for the inks. I can envision him sitting at his table, drawing a few lines with one pen, then grabbing another pen to apply other lines, then something for some brush work, and so on. There's a lot going on here, and on the other page.

Neat!  They would use vellum and color holds later on, but this is preferred by collectors to have it on another solid board.

Nice to know the preferred state is two separate boards as originally created. Thanks for the info.

It's cool to have two separate full-size boards for this one published page. Page six had the art for the color hold cut out and affixed to the page. It flaps up easily to see the blank space on the full-size board.

I like having the smaller board on the larger board so I can see it in one piece. But I also wish it had been left uncut on its own separate board. I guess I want to have my cake and eat it too.
