Rocket Raccoon by Andrew Robinson

This makes missing OAX a little more palatable.

This amazing piece by one Andrew Robinson is unique in my collection, it has something of a story behind it.

I originally ordered this commission specifically to be a unique depiction of Rocket's early days in 616, from when he first met the Hulk in issue 271 of his eponymous series. But unexpected financial difficulties forced me to cancel the commission, and the art rep was able to accommodate this as the artist hadn't started yet.

Well, for whatever reason, either because of miscommunication or because the artist liked the idea, the piece DID get made. I was generously contacted that summer about it, but unfortunately was still not able to buy it. It sucked, because this felt like something few others would have requested and it would be a very unique piece even as a Rocket Raccoon collector. But I had to let it go.

Until this past week. I saw it added onto the Essential Sequential site, and it had remained unsold. I don't know when it was added but the signs were clear. This had to be mine. Im by no means a rich man, but this time, I'd be able to make the purchase work. This wasn't just any Rocket drawing, it was mine. And I couldn't let it slip away again, so I didnt.

Having it in my hands now is awesome, not simply because of the journey to get it but because it is just very well done. There's a reason I request this from Mr. Robinson. He can draw anything and translate it with his thick, fluid yet defined eye for details and rendering. Its a showstopper, and stands out in my collection as a Rocket Raccoon piece beautifully. I've had to let go of a few nice pieces of late, but I'm very glad to have this one exactly where it belongs. On my wall!
