Stingray vs Namor Surf Contest by JP

OAX 2026 Pre-Show Commission!!!

I was really patting myself on the back for the genius of this commission concept: Stingray and Namor having a surf contest in homage to the the Batman/Joker surf contest in the Batman '66 tv show! The real challenge was determining the artist that could really pull this off. My immediate thought was Mike Allred, as he is essentially THE Batman '66 comic artist. The problem is, this idea occurred to me after I had already gotten a Stingray from Mike. I shared the idea with a couple of my closest collector friends and they suggested a few names that would have been great. But when Jiggy came on the CAF+ channel and mentioned that JP would be taking pre-show commissions for OAX, I knew it had to be him; his over the top pop sensibility would be perfect to bring this concept to life! I e-mailed Jiggy that night while he was still on the air with Bill. He promptly replied back telling me that the idea was right up JP's alley. Just like that, we were off to the races.

JP understood the assignment! I mentioned the board shorts specifically in my prompt, and he nailed those. I did not mention the shark repellant, but love the inclusion of this sly nod to the Batman '66 movie! I'm glad I opted for JP's less common hatching-style commission as the textures it creates seem especially suited to the groovy waves and the motion of the ocean. The Dr. Seuss style fish also add a bit of JP's characteristic humor the the piece. This one just makes me smile.
