Description
When I was reading this book, I was immediately struck by this page, because it was colored so well. I was very curious to see what the original art looked like. Dave Stewart is, of course, a seasoned veteran and an excellent colorist, but the penciller/inker was new to me. Leandro is super talented and does a great job of capturing the vibe of the era in this book. The partnership with Stewart on art is very successful, IMO.

Very cool, cinematic storytelling by Fernandez

Leandro's an excellent artist, as this page shows. Beautiful establishing shots before the reveal in that last half page. Stewart's colors really pair well with his art as well.

I haven't read it but it does not surprise me that Dave Stewart's excellent color work lead you to appreciation of a newer penciller/artist in Fernandez! These two look like a killer combo on the evidence of this OA and published example side by side, and really like that final panel

Great page! Loved Fernandez on The Old Guard with Greg Rucka.

It's a very effective progression, with panels growing in size, that makes it feel as though the warriors really are emerging slowly from cover.

Dave Stewart is an absolute beast when it comes to colors! Like the inking here, but the published page is a beauty.

Great page. I remember it well. I also remember going to Denny's and having a grand slam breakfast. Some days are a good day to have breakfast.

Isn't it fascinating how we can go decades in the hobby without ever hearing about certain artists? It happens to me from time to time, too. In this case though, it's the opposite. My thought upon seeing this was Leandro's work was "Wow, I fondly remember whenLeandro did those painted covers and the interiors to that Hulk story written by Bruce Jones back around 2003!"
