Barbara Cartland's Romances Daily 06/11/1982

The two art pieces I'm posting this afternoon aren't Tarzan, Buck Rogers, Flash Gordon, or Man-Thing. But they are by Gray Morrow and I got both consecutive dailies for just under $50. Dame Barbara Cartland was one of the most prolific and recognized romance authors in history, publishing over 700 novels. Known for her signature pink attire, her chaste historical romances often feature aristocratic settings, brave heroines, and "enamored earls". Barbara Cartland's Romances was a serialized newspaper comic strip that ran from 1980 to 1982, distributed by the United Feature Syndicate. It adapted Cartland's iconic historical and romance stories into daily and Sunday comic pages.

The strip was written by Jim Lawrence and Charlotte Weaver, and beautifully illustrated by Morrow. His intricately inked, period-accurate artwork featured a distinct, classic aesthetic using traditional pen and ink, zip-a-tone, and white-out corrections. Throughout June 1982, the strip published its final serialized adventure. The storyline primarily focused on the narrative titled "Passions in the Sand", which served as one of the closing multi-part storylines before the daily and Sunday comic strip concluded its run later in the year.
