Shrinking Violet Sketch Card by Phil Moy

I've been looking forward to getting this card for a few months, now!  After getting a Kinetix sketch card from Phil, it only made sense to follow it up with her best friend, Shrinking Violet!

I was excited to see Phil's take on Vi.  The only suggestion I really gave him was to have a pose and expression that matched her personality, sweet and shy, but I think poor Phil just can't help giving his women bedroom eyes, because Vi here came out looking a bit more confident and alluring than she did sweet and shy!  She's still just adorable, though.  A buddy of mine even says her expression looks downright mischevous, and I think that's actually a really fun take on her character, so you won't catch me complaining about it!

I love the colours Phil used for this one.  He used a whole slew of markers to get the more magenta-y purple of her costume juuuuuuust right, and the end result is gorgeous.  His approach to the white paint highlights is something I don't think I've ever seen before - he lays down the paint, waits for it to dry, and then goes over it with the markers again, so it's a closer match to the colour it sits atop instead of being just a pure white highlight.  You can see it really clearly in the highlights for Vi's hair and the black parts of her costume.  The green background was a classic pick -  Phil even mentioned that green and purple always go together super well (insert obligatory Brainiac 5 reference here).  I love how the little purple wisps he added look like flower petals (violets, perhaps?) being blown around!

As with the Kinetix Card, Phil gave Vi some eyeshadow to round out her look, along with some purple lipstick, which isn't comic-accurate, but which is super fun!  With the two cards side by side, you sort of get the sense that Kinetix and Vi went and got makeovers together, or maybe they did each others' makeup.
