Will Meugniot & Gray Morrow, The Phantom, Defenders of the Earth VHS Title Card Art, 1980’s

Well, it took a few years, but I finally tracked down and confirmed the artists behind this amazing two-page layered title artwork for Defenders of the Earth, Episode: The Mind Warriors. (Please see the supplemental photos for reference.) Through my research, I was able to connect with Rock Hoberg, producer of the animated Defenders of the Earth series. He explained that he was the previous owner of this piece and confirmed that the artwork was created with pencils by Will Meugniot and inks by Gray Morrow. I additionally connected with Will Meugniot - and he was delighted to again see the piece. Interestingly, this exact version of the artwork was ultimately not used. The producers instead selected a refined version that was again pencilled by Will Meugniot, but inked by Nestor Redondo. For completeness and historical reference, I have also included Nestor Redondo in the artist listing here, even though he did not work on this specific piece.
