When the prison transport carrying Vulcan, Son Of Fire crashes outside Midway City while on a cross-country trip to a more secure facility, the villain goes on a rampage - and runs into the new Doom Patrol! On the West Coast, the Silver Scarab, Jade, Obsidian and Wildcat see news reports of the battle and quickly set off for the site. When they arrive, the Patrol are on the verge of losing, and Cliff Steele's robotic body has been severely damaged, so the Infinity Inc members are quick to join the fight - but it's not until the arrival of another hero, former Justice League member Firestorm, that the tide is turned and Vulcan is finally overcome.
In the last couple of years of Infinity Inc's publication Roy Thomas did take advantage of the post-Crisis status quo and team Infinity Inc up with heroes who had formerly been on Earth One (the Global Guardians, the Outsiders, and the Teen Titans), so I think he'd have been open to pairing the Infinitors with another super-group, and I've been a fan of the new Doom Patrol since I picked up Showcase #94 almost half a century ago. Plus, I think there are interesting parallels between the DP and Infinity Inc - both are, in a way, second-generation teams, but with a member of their "parent" group still serving (Robotman in the Patrol; the Star-Spangled Kid/Skyman in Infinity Inc - the Huntress and Power Girl no longer being members by this point).
