Star Wars #3 page 15 by John Cassaday.

An iconic Darth Vader page from Marvel’s Star Wars run by Jason Aaron and John Cassaday. I’ve always loved the cinematic atmosphere of this sequence, with Vader emerging from the flames and destruction while the Millennium Falcon escapes in the final panel.

Cassaday’s storytelling and use of contrast on this page are incredible. The progression through the panels gives Vader an imposing and almost mythological presence. A perfect example of why his work on Star Wars remains so memorable.

Darth Vader is at his most terrifying when utilized as a slow, inevitable, and approaching menace. Even with all of the surrounding flames and explosions, we readers can still 'hear' that mechanical breathing build the suffocating tension of his approach. Great page.
