Description

I am a big fan of Frank Cho. Love his weekly videos on Youtube. Have been interested in this piece for a long time, but only recently been able to add it to my collection.  In terms of the Creature, while I was always familiar with it - I really got into it after seeing Del Toro's Shape of Water.

This here is the cover to an artbook published by Emeral City Comic-Con in 2009 where Frank was a guest.

As always, thank you for visiting my gallery!

Nice updated take on The Creature.  Cho somehow manages to make him look more "manly" in a way.  Like The Creature on steroids.  I mean, those are some serious thighs.  And the dame is classic Cho of course.

My thoughts exactly.  Usually artists stick close to the original Creature of the classic film, which just ends up looking a little too much like a guy with gills and diving flippers.  This on the other hand, truly looks like some half-man monster.

Great addition to your collection, Duke.  Congrats on getting it!

Nice homage to the classic Creature. The folds and shading really give it a solid look, and the delicate handling of the background is very nicely done.

Man, I wish he hadn't drawn the Creature carrying the woman, then we'd be able to see the rest of his ripped physique that looks strong enough to take on the Hulk. Look at those quads and calves!

Oh, come one! You KNOW how absolutely boring the female figure is to look at. Huge, muscular, green creatures is what you really want!

All the beast is toned and the lines are gray
I've been for a walk on a water's shape
I'd be safe and warm if I was in O.A.
Dames and Monsters dreamin' on such a cover page

Stopped in to a church I passed Lagoon that way
Well I got down on the trees and I pretend to pray
You know the Creature likes the Cho
He knows I'm gonna pay

Beautifully drawn!  Great composition and cohesiveness between the figures.  The details are impressive.  Admit it, you got it because the Duke couldn't resist those Daisy 'Dukes'. Yet another impressive piece for your collection.

Spectacular Cho, Duke!  A theme of "monsters and dames" would be like shooting fish in a barrel for Frank, and he shows why here: a heavy duty, positively dynamite, Frazettaian composition featuring a gorgeous monster and monstrously gorgeous dame.  Frank's detail level is cranked to 11 on this one (as usual - aside from the stunning, incredible texture lines and wash tones given to the creature, there's soft grit added to the smoke / fog clouds, fine outlines of the bats in the background, and even the small, happy frog on the richly detailed log at the bottom...), but I love how the haphazardly filled-in background blacks play off those details (especially along that right side) giving a nice edge and further sense of menace to the wisps of fog they represent (all of which was apparently ignored on the published piece, alas...).  But you have it in all its glory here, Duke, and thank you for sharing it with us.  A triumph to add this Cho!  Huge congrats!
