I usually don't post a piece before safely receiving it in the mail, but since Nate's rep Sean is set to hand deliver it later in the year along with another, I figure this will arrive in perfect condition anyway and it spares me from any pressure to attach some kind of awkward hand-over picture at that time.
Now, on to the piece itself, which Nate absolutely killed as expected. Anyone who's seen Nate's most recent commission work knows these are not to be missed out on, and the inaugural Kirby Award winner once again shows why if you ask me. This is one of the scenes Nate proposed from the very start, Totoro being an instrumental influence on his debut GN Swallow Me Whole and one of his favourite movies tout court. The pencils and inks were already spectacular, but the way Nate utilizes color to capture the night sky, has light beaming from the house as the dad puts in another all-nighter and quietly highlights our protagonists is just on another level.
