A cool battle page between Superman and Lar Gand/Mon-El. This duo-shade board was finshed in wash tones with additional india ink in the areas of heavy black. I have included a scan of the reverse of the board which shows the DC copyright stamp. I am providing these scans of the reverse of the boards to help let other art collectors know exactly what they are buying in case they happen to be offered pages from this issue. (The pencil and inked pages contain the original Curt Swan pencils and John Byrne inks, the duo-shade pages were finished in wash tones and additional india ink by John Byrne. The duo-shade pages are the ones that were used in the publication of the comic and have the DC copyright stamp on their reverse.)
Sorry if all of this is boring to the casual collector; but as John Byrne's artwork dealer I often get requests for clarification regarding pages of artwork that John Byrne completed using duo-shade paper. I figured this was a good opportunity to provide the information in a public forum to which I can refer collectors rather than spend extra time explaining everything in private e-mails! As my time allows, I will provide the same info for other titles that John Byrne worked in due-shade board (such as Namor).
