Morpheus [Sandman] by Richard Case

This had been on my wish list for a very long time! I never quite knew if, or when, I would be able to ask Richard Case for a winged Morpheus, so I was especially happy that he was a guest at LCCAF this year and that the opportunity presented itself!

So I finally got to make my request, and then watch as his interpretation of Morpheus in the mythic form was slowly, gloriously conjured onto the page. I kept drifting past Richard's table and stealing glances, and each time it felt like another layer of magic had settled into place. A few more lines, the wings coming to life, the expression sharpening, and suddenly he was simply there. 

And I truly love how it turned out. The piece carries everything I love about Richard's work, that depth of feeling held in the few, deliberate lines. It was also a real pleasure to sit for a while and watch him work, and to hear about his experiences, his journey and his process. This was an absolute highlight of this year's LCCAF.
