Legionnaires #48 pg 12

It's been far too long since I had any published pages to post, but Jeff's recent CAF livestream changed that!  I was able to snag two pages from the art drop, and this was the first.  The big draw of this page for me is that it features Kinetix, one of my favourite characters from this version of the Legion, and it also features some of the fun "motion blur" effects Jeff was starting to incorporate more regularly into his work.

Here we see Legionnaires M'Onel, Live Wire, XS, Kinetix, Magno, Sensor, Star Boy, and Invisible Kid meeting to discuss the looming threat of the sorceror Mordru (you can see a little fragment from the tomb he escaped lying on the table in the first panel).  The Legion has just learned that a previous foe of theirs, the sorceress Mysa, is also mixed up in everything, which is particularly distressing news for Kinetix, since she was at the centre of their previous conflict.  Star Boy recalls that his girlfriend, Dreamer, had a precognitive dream about Kinetix being grabbed by an old, withered hand, but Kinetix dismisses Dreamer's talents as nonsense.  That's definitely Zoe's judgemental side getting the better of her, given that just a few pages later, Mysa's hand does indeed appear to grab her by the throat and pull her through a portal!

I love a good "talking team" page for my collection, where you just get to enjoy how the artist has drawn everyone (and, in this case, enjoy the Legionnaires acting just like the group of teenaged friends they are).  I particularly like how XS tries to cheer Kinetix up, and how ridiculous it is that Kinetix doesn't place much stock in Dreamer's precognitive dreams, considering all of the mystical nonsense Zoe herself has been through.  That dismissive handwave in panel four is the best part of the page, and Jeff did a fantastic job of conveying the exact motion that's happening.  Every time I look at this page I end up copying the motion, and I bet some of you looking at this page did, too!

Jeff and Cory's work is just so beautiful and clean.  All of the characters look fantastic, and even a page where "nothing happens" is so interesting and fun to look at.  Jeff brings the characters to life with XS's speed trail, Kinetix's handwave, and even the little head waggle Star Boy does in panel three when he's pantomiming Kinetix being choked by Mysa's hand.  I love how Jeff rendered the transparent fabric of Kinetix's sleeves, and all of the beautiful architecture in the bottom panel, which you'd probably overlook if you were just casually reading the comic, itself.  It's also worth noting that this is the first appearance of the planet Sklar in the Reboot Legion, after being focused on considerably more in the 5 Years Later Legion that predeced this version.
