Le Transperceneige - Snowpiercer - T.01 Planche originale no°15, Casterman 1984

12-2025...One of my favorite pieces I've added to my gallery! Snowpiercer is one of my favorite movies and this page is from the original 1984 graphic novel (serialized in A Suivre)! Though I'm not a fan of the violence in the movie (celebrated director Bong Joon-ho and Cpatain America's Chris Evans as the lead actor), the dystopian future concept of class struggle on a train seems such a fascinating concept. The TV series with Daveed Diggs and Jennifer Connelly is not bad either.

Of course, the movie and series are slightly different from the graphic novel (and its sequels/prequels), but a lot stays the same and this page is crucial to the story. The main character here (Proloff who is the equivalent to "Curtis" (Evans) in the movie and "Andre" (Diggs) in the series) is one of the stowaways who managed to jump on the train at last minute without a ticket, being forced to live in the squalid conditions of the Tail. He must make his way to the Front of the train in the hopes of restoring some quality of life and order. Here he meets the other main character Adeline, and together they experience the first flashback to the moment of boarding.

A beautiful composition of the top half with dialogue in the present and the bottom half with only images to guide our imagination of the past. You can sense the raw emotion in the three bottom panels - anger, panic, desperation.

Signed by the artist and co-creator of the series Jean-Marc Rochette in the penultimate panel in pencil. Fun fact: in the movie, there is a character named the Artist who draws the people and scenes of the Tail. While he is portrayed by an actor, when the camera focuses only on the hands painting the pictures, that is the artist Jean-Marc Rochette essentially making a cameo!
