Brainiac 5 (Battle Damage!) Sketch Card by Jeff Moy

Well, it started out like any other night that Jeff was streaming on WhatNot.  I had a bit of spare cash in the art fund so I purchased one of his sketch card slots, but while I was trying to figure out which character I wanted to commission, the strangest thing happened.  I blacked out, and when I blacked back in... this was the card that was waiting for me.  NO idea how this happened.  I claim temporary insanity, plead the fifth, and will say no more without my lawyer present.

But if I were going to say more... this is the 100th sketch card I've added to my CAF gallery!  I commissioned it (allegedly) a little while ago, but thought that it was fun and significant enough to save for this huge milestone post.  And really, it's just an all-around great card.  Jeff offers various tiers of "battle damage" you can request (see the battle-damaged Andromeda I also have in this gallery), but you don't see people requesting it for male characters all that often.  I do get a good laugh out of how... gratuitous?... the tear in Brainy's uniform is.  It seems less like something that would happen naturally in the course of a battle, and more like someone just grabbed the front of his uniform and very "strategically" tore off a huge handful.  Hats off to Jeff for figuring out how to show the most amount of skin possible while still keeping the uniform relatively intact.

I think the funniest part of the card is Brainy's expression, though.  It gives you the sense that he's either mortified or severely ticked off about his current state of undress, but he's trying to hide it by looking annoyed and "nonchalantly" scrolling through his omnicom.  The messy hair and dirt spatters are great additions, too, and I love that this is another card where Jeff pulled back the perspective to give more of a torso shot (and what a torso it is... wait, who said that??).  There's some fantastic colourwork here, too (particularly when it comes to the colour green), and the anatomy is on point, as always.  

Anyways, feel free to enjoy this card as much as I do.  If I were the one who commissioned it.  Which I most certainly am not.
