Redcoat #10 pg 11

Redcoat is probably my favorite current ongoing series in comics, a fact that Bill knows all too well. A while back, he asked me to put together a list of pages I had interest in so that he could forward it to Bryan Hitch. Figuring some of the pages I wanted weren't going to be available, I shotgun blasted a list and figured I'd see what hit. I later found out that Hitch ended up sending ALL the items on my list to Bill. He put a few of these up for sale during the most recent Comic Art Live and I was forced to buy this one so nobody else could get it. 

This page is so damn good. The symmetry of it, beginning with the figure throwing out the playing cards in the top panel, flows from top to bottom, only broken by the second panel due to the perspective. I feel like Hitch could have found an alternate point of view, say top-down, that would have lent itself to a more fit in more with the rest of the page. The fact that he chose to draw it as is, breaking up that symmetry, actually draws the eye in more and makes the whole thing more dynamic. The third row panels with the bullet holes in the aces are perfect and the expressions in the last two panels show of how well Hitch can make his characters act. Simon and Annie Oakley are both impressed and a bit smitten, and that shows through clearly. Being a modern page, there are no words on it, but they aren't necessary thanks to the power of Hitch's storytelling.
