Comic Interview #6 Cover - George Perez pencils and inks, JLA-Avengers from the unpublished 1984 crossover. Features that era's Avengers and Justice League of America lineups.

Hard to overrestimate the significance of this work. This was the first published artwork of the two teams together, and it was published in an early issue of Comic Interview magazine, itself an innovation in comic fandom. The story of the unfinished Perez crossover is well chronicled at this point, so I'll just reflect a bit on the meaning of it all for me. This was several years after George had left the Avengers book and Marvel, and had breakout success with DC's properties including creating New Teen Titans and working on JLA. So when the idea of a crossover came about he was a natural. His cover character selection was true to the then current rosters. I think this might be the first time he illustrated the female Captain Marvel, She Hulk and Starfox since they had joined the Avengers after he left.

The article, of course, jumped the gun and left fandom broken-hearted. For me, Avengers was my first love but although I was a Marvel zombie, Justice League was my second love (and Justice Society my third, since I consider them a precursor to both). I had complete runs of both Avengers and JLA before Perez ever entered the picture, and of course he only made things even better. I don't think I would have been as enarmored of the Squadron Supreme either if it wasn't for my love of the Justice League first. I remember even drooling over the Rutland Halloween unofficial crossovers.

So having this piece completes a dimension of my collection that I never thought I would be able to complete.

Perfect addition to your amazing collection. This crossover in both the unpublished attempt and the final amazing mini series was just great comics and storytelling from one of the best artists to ever grace the genre. Huge congrats!
