Description

Another highly prolific comic book artist who died too young, at age 72 (21 years ago today).

Brave and Bold 178 was published in September 1981, the same month I started high school. When you are 14, living to 72 seems pretty good. Today, if you're someone who started high school in September 1981, 72 is way too freakin’ young.

The comic industry can be brutal on its artists’ health: sun-up to sun-down, hunched over a drawing board trying to beat crushing deadlines. The work-for-hire nature means taking on more than any person should have to, and banking cash to cover time off and sick days. It also prevented artists from seeking proactive or preventative medical care or even taking a walk in the middle of the day.

That’s why the list of artists who passed too soon is too long.

And that's why I am still thrilled to walk the floor of conventions and to talk to creators whose names appear hundreds of times in my long boxes packed away downstairs.

I never met Mr. Aparo, but I really would have liked to.

This is sharper than your typical Aparo of the era!  If it was 90's, I would have guessed Breyfogle!  So much motion and action within the splash!

Death by papercut is no way to go. Great Aparo title splash (and the Ditko tribute is a nice bonus)!

Cool Title splash with a lurking Creeper (created by mighty Steve Ditko) and a Bats that has heavy action buisness !
