DescriptionThis cover was inspired by and replicates John Buscema's cover from the 1970's for AVENGERS #83 that originally had the 1st Apperance of the VALKRIE and her LADY LIBERATORS (Black Widow, Medusa, The Wasp, Scarlet Witch) on the Cover defeating The Avengers. I asked Bob Layton to switch it around and put male characters from Marvel (The Thing, Spider-Man, Captain America and Iron Man) being defeated by the WOMEN OF THE JUSTICE LEAGUE OF AMERICA (Wonder Woman, Hawkgirl, Zatanna, Supergirl, and The Huntress - - who, by the way, Bob Layton co-created that character)... and it ended up as the masterpiece you see here. The original concept had The Black Canary instead of Supergirl, which I had originally requested, then seen Bob Layton's prelim skecth for, which was great, but I wanted to put in Supergirl, and one of the girls had to go, so I dumped The Black Canary from the line-up... Bob Layton does a fantastic job on all of his cover commissions, and this is the 3rd one in my collection.Social/Sharing |
