SAINT RESERVE - David Nakayama asked me to take the image down as it didn't reflect the evolved high quality artwork he was producing at the time and promised me a free replacement sketch... but I never got one. I used to see him at conventions in-person, so assumed it would happen at the next show I saw him at, but I've not seen him for years.
I remember when this page sold on eBay in October 2010 for $4,000, it's a great page!
This piece has been inquired for, regarding if it's available for purchase. I acquired it in 2010 and then had it framed up. I'd consider trades as well. The current FMV on this is approx. $2,000.
Great detail with vibrant coloring to bring out the energy on such a small medium (Trading Card), excellent work and homage.
This is a very nice published cover with beautiful artwork featuring Wonder Woman and Superman, 2/3's of DC's Trinity!
A great creative piece from the full figure reflection to Scoots' reaction and tail wagging.
VIBRANT !!! Mike Mayhew's painted art is even more glorious to behold in person where you can truly appreciate his mastery of the medium.
Thanks Michael !!! Mystery somewhat solved :)
Technically, that is incorrect since these women (fictional characters) didn't exist 40 years ago. Rogue was created in 1981. Psylocke was created in 1987. Phoenix was created in 1976. Kitty Pryde was created in 1980. Emma Frost was created in 1980. ...and the oldest character of 'em all, Storm was created in 1975 (37 years ago). Plus, there's been no scientific correlation between breast size and a woman's intelligence nor other non-physical traits either. This is an aesthetically beautifully rendered drawing by Greg Horn, one of the masters of photo realistic artwork.
Great commission. I'm not sure why Marvel ever changed her costume, designed by the legendary Jim Steranko, her original outfit has all of the elements that a classic or iconic costume should have, with the face mask not obstructing her face or hair, and the mandatory hip hugging skimpy garb and even a cape. This is a well executed piece by Terry Dodson.
This is what I consider a really great recreation since it's not an artist trying to mimic the original in style, it's Mike Miller's reimagined version which he clearly makes his own. A really awesome job!
ASSEMBLE !!! I actually won the piece at the Big Wow Comic Fest auction. A GREAT EPIC PIECE.
This was drawn inside of the actual published comic book, a special edition where there are blank pages.
This is a great piece. I hope other fans will be able to help support the Rio Family and pick up whatever artwork may be available from his dealer/website and help both continue remembering the legacy of his artistic brilliance as well as adding Al Rio's beautiful art to their collections, finding good homes for the masterpieces so they end up in the hands of his fans who sincerely appreciate them, like you.
This is a museum quality piece. Very nostalgic (as well as aesthetic) with the logos, an action scene that relates to the interrior story, background and inks compared to some of the modern day artwork of today that's simply light penciled pin-ups that don't even relate to the story. I remember when comics hitting landmark issues like #100 and #200 were celebrated with grand pageantry like this, before the whole "new series" #1 first issue marketing gimmicks of today.
This is an awesome piece by a great artist and really nice guy. Brandon's work is top notch.
...you only turn 21 once! I'm glad you had a great birthday.
The "...One Minute Later" is a great concept, and I'm sure you'll bookend it with a "Moments Before..." once you hit the wall with all of the epic sequences you're commissioning. I enjoy when collectors themselves add their own creativity and have a theme to their collection. You have a remarkable gallery.
This is a great masterpiece. It's sometimes easier for people to focus in on the T... ( o ) ( o ) n' A... ( )( ) of comic book artwork which sometimes distracts from true artistic talent, if you remember the 90's bad girl era. A piece like this reminds everyone of what a truly great artist Adam Hughes is, and it's not all about the sizzle of sex, but the substance of his detailed rendering, which this is of cover quality.
Here's a link with photos of the event and information about this store: http://www.nostalgicbooksandcomics.com/2011/08/lady-mechanika-creator-and-artist-in-store-signing/
I bought a few Jon Bosco pieces from his "Alley Cat" (Alley Baggett) series and 2 covers from "Sword of Dove" and have been trying to hunt down the published comics, which led me to your gallery - - so, it sounds like "Sword of Dove" is an unpublished venture.
This is a commission? If so, when was this piece done? It has a very authentic nostalgic look to the 60's and is probably the best original art piece i've seen this decade so far.
This was the best commission done at Wonder Con by any artist at the show!
Eric - Thanks for the sketch, it's nice to see the evolution of the fine quality your work from since I met you back in 2003, which keeps getting better and better, especially with the colored commissions you've started doing in 2010. I look forward to seeing greater things both for and from you on the horizon!
The dialogue is what makes art like this super special. To get any artwork with the full oath is awesome.
Bob Layton is a great artist, and in the 80's he did a great job embellishing the works by John Byrne and John Romita Jr. This is a page worth high praise artistically and the story was a great single issue saga! If ever up for sale, I'd love the opportunty to own such a masterpiece.
Dang! You are like the DC Encyclopedia !!! Thanks Tats! Much appreciated info...
Tatiana, thanks for the information, much appreciated at always!!!
Fred - Thank you so much for the information you've provided !!!
Great Work... what type of ballpoint pen do you use? Is it a standard one you'd find in any office cubicle, like a Papermate Medium Tip ink pen, or a special art store high end pen? Amazing detailing...
What makes Arthur Adams pieces such high quality is the fact that the backgrounds are characters in themselves in the very fine detailing, which in fact probably takes longer to render than the foreground characters themselves, and creates a very complete total packaged piece of art. I think his closest rivals today are Frank Cho, George Perez and rising star, Nicholas "Nick" Bradshaw who put as much fine detailing into their pen work.
Greg Land is one of today's top cover artists and his art is what draws me to buy new comics based on the covers. This is a great piece!!! I was thinking of traveling to a show to see him for a commission at the convention. Was this done at the recent Florida show?
Great to see a page like this land into the collection and home like yours! It's always nice to see artwork bring out nostalgic memories.
Great Piece. I wonder if mine was done as a recreation version of yours with minor alterations and embelishments to differentiate them. I like your piece. Did you create (art direct) this concept? Your collection is magnificent!!!
This is an amazingly awesome and creative piece, well executed masterpiece that is worthy of publication.
Great Piece. Budd Root's artwork is awesome. I hope to see his work on Marvel and DC high profile comics much like how Adam Hughes and Frank Cho garnered national mainstream popularity so he gets the recognition he deserves.
The art is good, but the dialogue is GREAT! Writing is so often overlooked, it's nice to see artwork with dialogue text on it, it makes the artwork complete to me... and this is a great stand alone masterpiece.
It's a great piece of artwork. I'll help create a gag line... Maybe it's something like... "Do we really need to sign in, he only take 15 minutes?"
A piece that rivals a recent acrylic one I saw by Simone Bianchi... this is a true masterpiece by a true master artist!
The true definition of a RARE piece. Although all original comic art published or sketched are one of a kind pieces... this is more of a once in a lifetime opportunity possession by an artist whose work is amongst the most sought after.
The color is art itself, an aesthetic addition to improve upon a masterpiece. Great Job !!!
A very nice piece... I need to add a piece by her to complete my collection of different artists... cute style!
