Silver Surfer by Mitton

A splendid and classical interpretation of the Surfer by Mitton.This piece has some history behind it and let me explain why it's such a joy to own it.When Lug (the editor who translated Marvel comics in french) published Lee & Buscema's Surfer in french, it was a great success.But as you know, there wasn't a lot of material available at the time and to make the public wait before receiving the films for the last issues,the editor commissioned mr Mitton to draw about 2 issues of Surfer material to publish it between the gaps.Marvel was of course aware of the situation and it was fully licensed (which is a rarity in itself as Marvel rarely allowed other publisher to toy with their characters).And Mitton produced these 2 issues which are true artistic gems as he respectfully did it the Buscema way.His Surfer was both classical, owing to Big John but with a european feeling at the same time.Lee & Big John Buscema later saw these issues and it was reported that they absolutely loved them.Now you understand why I treasure this nice drawing as Mr Mitton drew the Surfer for 2 rare issues in his long career and Big John loved them.
