A view of the Elizabethan studio in John Hornby Maw's West Hill House at Hastings, England. Several other views exist. One, with no figures, was sold several times from 1990 onward at auction. A larger view (18X24) with a woman reading by the window, is in the Hastings' Museum; another view, also larger, with a woman, is untraced, but an image is in the Witt Photo Archives at the Courtauld Institute, London. Perhaps the most well known of the West Hill House pictures is the one in the Glasgow (Scotland) Art Gallery. It shows a back view of a woman, but it is otherwise very similar to this watercolor.
