I bit the bullet and bought this from James. It's got a different tone to his previous TPB covers. James told me that there is something religious about this piece and he had Mantegna's 'The Lamentation over the Dead Christ' in mind when he painted this.

The cover is for a forthcoming volume collecting 'The Good Prince' storyline from Fables. Ambrose has his turn in the spotlight (after a supporting role in the series as well as a tragic origin story in Snowfalls). The result saw most of 2007 focusing on this lengthy arc and perhaps his demise?

Measures 22 x 30, acrylic on Rives BFK.

Painting arrived and it's lovely to behold! The size of it means that there's plenty of detail. The textures are amazing as are all the pained expressions (Gretel, etc). No regrets on this purchase.
